一、含义不同

another可表示“另一个；再一个”的意思，而other则是用来表示“另外；其他”的意思。

二、用法不同

another用作形容词的基本意思是“(又)另一个的”，主要指同类中又多一(个)的或与前述不同的另一个的，在句中只用作定语。another后常接单数可数名词，但当复数名词前有基数词或few时，也可用another修饰。

another这个形容词是由an和other两词合缀而成，因此它不能加冠词或其他限定性的形容词。

Will you like another cup of tea?

你要再来一杯茶吗？

other用作形容词作“别的，其他的，另外的”解时，常用来修饰复数名词或不可数名词；如前面有this，that，some，any，each，every，no，none，one等词时，也可用来修饰单数名词。

other用在the或形容词性物主代词之后时，与单数名词连用表示“(两个中的)另一个”；与复数名词连用表示某一集体中“其余的，剩下的(人或物)”。

She stood on the other side of the fence.
